Speech & Language Therapy
Speech & Language Therapy
Students approved for Speech/Language services through their Planning and Placement team (PPT) are evaluated and afforded intervention by a certified and licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) individually, with a peer, and/or in the classroom. Some classrooms have language groups led by the SLP.
Solterra Academy Speech Language Pathologists work with students with communication difficulties related to:
▧ Receptive and expressive language deficits
▧ Social language
▧ Phonological and articulation disorders
▧ Fluency disorders
▧ Pragmatic language
▧ Autism spectrum disorders
Communication Techniques
For those students who lack effective oral communication, the SLP may use a combination of signs, gestures, picture symbols and/or an augmentative device to facilitate communication. Other students may have articulation difficulties, characterized by mispronunciations or lack of certain sounds.
Some students, particularly those on the autism spectrum, may have pragmatic language issues which impact their socialization, social language, or interaction with others.
